The Bristol Stool Chart is often used to assess whether the consistency of a stool is good enough. Type 4 as seen below on the chart is the ideal stool.
Research has shown there is a link between gut microbiota variation and stool consistency (see article). Ongoing research also shows the link between the gut microflora and autism (see article) and other recent research shows the link between these bacteria and neuropsychiatric disorders in genereal (see article).
Yellow floating stools can suggest undigested fats. Frothy smelly stools can suggest a Candida or yeast infection. Much can be told just by looking at your child's stool.
