PBS is based on the principles of ABA and seeks to understand the function of, and change, challenging behaviours. A Functional Behaviour Assessment is used to describe the behaviours, identify the contexts that predict when behaviour will or will not occur, and also identifies consequences that maintain the behaviour. With the aforementioned information the PBS process identifies goals, gathers information, develops hypotheses, designs support plans and then implements and monitors the support plan.
